BESTSELLER supports EuroCham Myanmar Garment Advocacy Group's call for a review and update of the country’s minimum wage for garment workers. The statement highlights the urgent need for an updated wage floor that reflects workers’ cost of living—an issue that has grown increasingly acute since the last minimum wage adjustment in 2018.

Through our regular engagement with workers, trade unions, and labour rights organisations in Myanmar, low wages are consistently raised as one of the most pressing concerns. Consequently, BESTSELLER has engaged extensively with factories in our supply chain to increase wages. The majority of factories in our supply chain have taken voluntary steps to increase salaries, however, the lack of a statutory update continues to place pressure on workers’ livelihoods across the industry.

Claus Aabling, Labour Rights Manager at BESTSELLER, commented:

“Low wages are a systemic challenge that cannot be solved by one actor alone. Therefore, we believe that speaking up is an important part of our responsibility as a sourcing brand. We support EuroCham Myanmar’s call for a review of the minimum wage and recognise that an increase in the minimum wage is essential to promote fair working conditions and strengthening the overall resilience of the garment sector in Myanmar.”

In line with international expectations

BESTSELLER applies heightened human rights due diligence in Myanmar in line with international expectations and OECD guidance for responsible business conduct. To learn more about BESTSELLER’s work in Myanmar, including results of our wage monitoring, please read our latest Myanmar Due Diligence Report (March 2025).

We continue to engage with our suppliers to promote decent wages while also supporting worker-focused measures. However, addressing the wage challenge requires broad-based action, including a functioning legal framework and collaborative efforts across the industry.

We remain committed to conducting business responsibly in Myanmar and to reporting transparently on our efforts and challenges. You can find more detail in our Myanmar Human Rights Due Diligence Report (March 2025).
