In 2021, our parent company, HEARTLAND, built a 207-megawatt solar power plant in Denmark – one of the largest in Northern Europe.
Through a power purchase agreement (PPA), we are sourcing enough renewable electricity from the solar power plant to match our electricity use in our owned and operated buildings in the European Economic Area. This is done according to best practice guidance from leading industry organisations RE100 and the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
The electricity from the plant in Holstebro cannot be included in the energy mix outside Europe, which is why BESTSELLER's electricity consumption outside Europe will be covered by contracts with other local renewable energy plants.
One of our Fashion FWD goals for 2021 was to power all our owned and operated buildings globally 100 percent through renewable energy.
With the connection of HEARTLAND’s solar power plant to the European electricity grid, we achieved that goal – as well as our first science-based target (SBT).
- In BESTSELLER we only source renewable electricity following the definition of RE100. RE100 defines renewable energy as electricity generated using technologies with a fuel that is replenishable within a human lifespan.
The 207 megawatts park is financed by HEARTLAND, the parent company of BESTSELLER, which will match BESTSELLER's European electricity consumption with solar energy from the park.
